Field Prof. Dr.-Ing. Axel Berndt
Profile
Axel Berndt studied computer science with a minor in music at Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg. From 2006, he researched and taught music informatics at the Institute for Simulation and Graphics and received his doctorate in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, he worked at the Technical University of Dresden, Faculty of Computer Science. From 2015 to 2023, Axel Berndt was a member of the Centre for Music and Film Informatics in Detmold. Since 2023 he has been a member of the Paderborn University, the Musicology Seminar Detmold/Paderborn, the Centre Music - Edition - Media and the KreativInstitut.OWL.
Sound and music are omnipresent components of our media culture. Today, digital tools and data formats enrich creative work with them in many ways and make it more productive. Digital media enable completely new approaches to sound and music, even for non-experts. There is a great deal of innovative potential in the overarching department of music informatics, which we are exploring by building bridges to other disciplines such as human-technology interaction, musicology and application domains such as the games industry, organ building and museum technology.
Transfer is already inherent in my research topics from the outset. It happens
- in direct interdisciplinary exchange with colleagues from various institutions, such as the OWL University of Applied Sciences and the Detmold University of Music,
- in the individual and joint initiation of collaborations, specifically with industry and application domains for our own research,
- addressing research questions that arise from the exchange with potential application domains,
- in the preparation of their own research and development results beyond the stage of proof-of-concept prototypes and scientific texts/publications
