Musicology in the two-subject Master's program
Musicology and ...
In the two-subject Master's in Culture and Society, you combine Musicology with another subject, such as Musicology & Digital Humanities, Musicology & Gender Studies, Musicology & Management, Music & Media Studies, Musicology & Philosophy, and many more: What is your dream combination?
Musicology researches and communicates the creation processes, functions, transmission and meanings of music; subject areas and methods from the cultural and social sciences to the digital humanities play an important role in this. On the Master's degree course, you will study music in its entire spectrum, including music history and aesthetics, digital music editing and analysis, as well as issues relating to the cultural and social significance of music, the history of composition, gender and pop music.
Two elective musicology specializations
If you are interested in digitality, media and editing, you have the unique opportunity at the Detmold/Paderborn Department of Musicology to focus your studies on these subjects; if, on the other hand, journalistic writing is your area of interest, you can also choose to specialize in this field.
Studying and working in Detmold
Our range of courses includes a variety of special Master's courses, allowing you to tailor your studies to your interests.
The majority of seminars and lectures in musicology take place in Detmold. In addition, individual courses are offered at other locations (Paderborn University Campus, HNI Paderborn, KreativInstitut.OWL) or digitally.
Master's students have excellent opportunities to successfully apply for jobs as research assistants (WHB) in our ongoing musicological research projects. This allows you to gain important professional and research experience during your studies.
Two subjects, two locations, no problem
On the two-subject degree course, around half of your courses are in Detmold and half in Paderborn. We actively support every combination of subjects and, in case of doubt, find individual solutions so that you can alternate between Detmold and Paderborn days in the most relaxed way possible.
