The following libraries with musicological literature are available in Detmold and Paderborn:
The library of the Musicology Seminar is a reference library, i.e. the media cannot be borrowed. The constantly updated inventory of musicological books and journals as well as sheet music, Microfilm and recordings has reached about 43.000 items. The library owns special collections (largely sheet music) of music of female composers and the legacies of Adolf Kochsiek and Jost Michaels.

The university library offers literature for all subjects taught in the university. The items can be borrowed. Interlibrary lending is also possible.

The music collection of the State library of Lippe offers a large collection of "Musica practica" and "theoretica". The sheet music library contains around 90.000 items. You can find books about music theory, encyclopedias and bibliographies. The sheet music collection includes manuscripts and autographs, especially in the Lortzing archive and the princes’ collection, a few in the music archive of the region Lippe as well. Students of the Musicology Seminar do not have to pay fees. Interlibrary lending is possible as well.
