Vita
Prof. Dr. Joachim Veit, born in 1956, studied in Saarbruecken and Detmold/Paderborn musicology, English language and literature and music education in grammar schools. In 1982 he took the first state examination for music education in comprehensive schools with the subjects music and English in Detmold, in 1984 he graduated in the Magister program musicology with the minor subjects English and American literature. In 1988 he received his PhD in Detmold/Paderborn with “Studien zum Frühwerk Carl Maria von Webers. Untersuchungen zum Einfluß Abbé Voglers und Franz Danzis.”
Since 1988 following the doctor’s degree he was employed as research assistant in the DFG-project Gesamtausgabe der Briefe Carl Maria von Webers. In 1996 he was employed as research assistant into the project Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Gesamtausgabe, which is sponsored by the conference of the Academies of Sciences and where he in the meantime holds the post of the editing director. At the end of 2005 the faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Paderborn awarded him an honorary professorship. Since the beginning of 2006 he supervises the DFG-project „Digital Musical Editions“ (Edirom).
Joachim Veit is member of theFachgruppe Freie Forschungsinstitute in the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung (free research institutes in the society of musical research), furthermore member of the scientific advisory council of the Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Society (Berlin) and the Albert-Lortzing-Society (Freiberg). Since 2006 he is member of the board at the VG Musikedition in Kassel and since the beginning of 2007 member of the Advisory Committee of the Digital Mozartedition Salzburg.
